Guitar ClassGuitar I Syllabus
This class is intended to teach the basics elements of guitar playing technique, along with the skills necessary to read and perform guitar music. Throughout this course, students will demonstrate understanding of the following topics: • Basic note reading ability • Guitar tab reading ability • Basic understanding of chords • Chord Progressions • The blues • Scales and their functions • Popular and standard melody • Ensemble/Group performance Other topics may be added as well as the class progresses. Time each period will allow for group instruction, individual practice, and individual assessment of each student. Grading: The grade for this class will be calculated from: • Class quizzes • Playing assessments • Projects throughout the semester • Class participation • Attitude and cooperation in class The instructor reserves the right to change any aspect of this outline if the need arises. Remember: A class such as this should be fun. Learning a new instrument is exciting and can be very rewarding. Your participation in class and your practice outside of class will determine how much you learn and how far you progress. Good luck, and welcome to Guitar class!
